Our past, present and future
The history of Jacobs Steel is rooted firmly in the local area. Worthing born and bred, Ashley Jacobs and Derek Steel founded the business in 1984 with one office in Broadwater, and have since grown the company into the well-respected, market-leading estate agency it is today.
The first shop on Broadwater Boulevard was quickly followed by offices in Lancing, West Worthing, Shoreham, Worthing Town Centre, Findon Valley and most recently, in Hove. Over the years we’ve established an enviable reputation for honesty, integrity and an unwavering determination to put our customers first, which has helped the company go from strength to strength. Our agency has been instrumental in supporting the development of the region’s reputation as a property hotspot and a wonderful place to call home.
Unparalleled local knowledge from 38 years of selling homes
In January 2018, Ashley and Derek handed over the reins to joint Managing Directors Pat Barton and Matt Jacobs, who have both enjoyed a long history with the company. Pat started his career with Jacobs Steel over 25 years ago, working his way up to a senior management position before leaving to gain experience in the corporate world. For Matt, Ashley’s son, Jacobs Steel has always been a part of his life. Following in Dad’s footsteps, Matt joined the company as a teenager when he started as a Saturday assistant. Later in his career, he moved to Foxtons in London, before relocating to Sydney, Australia, to run a sales business. In 2017, he returned to the UK to take over from his father.
Under Pat and Matt’s leadership, Jacobs Steel has undergone a major rebrand to reflect their fresh approach and the region's flourishing future.
